  • [10.00-10.30 am: Coffee break]

  • 10.30-11.30 am: Poetry Lecture (1): ‘The limits of my language are the limits of my world:’ Poetry & Philosophy

  • 11.30-12.00 noon: Seminar slot 1 - John Laue

  • [12.00-1.00 pm: Lunch]

  • 1.00-3.00 pm: Discussion of Poetry Readings (1)

  • [3.00-3.30 pm: Afternoon tea]

  • 3.30-4.50 noon: Seminar slot 2 - Melanie Ferguson

  • [5.00 pm: Departure]



    Questions for discussion:
    • Is poetry an appropriate place to debate social and ethical issues?
    • Is writing a poem a political gesture?
    • Is there a specifically New Zealand style of poetry?
    • Should poetry be topical or “eternal”? In other words, does poetry date?
    • Is English different in different places, or is it really the international language?
